If you find yourself in need of additional storage space, but you can’t add more cabinets to your living space, there are ways that you can increase the capacity that you already have in your home.

Whether it’s having additional storage space in your kitchen cupboards, bathroom cabinets or media centers, there are many space saving alternatives that will allow you the added leverage for storing more items efficiently. If you have a nook or cranny that isn’t being used, you might be surprised to discover that there’s plenty of room to expand. All it takes is a bit of ingenuity and some creative ideas on how to maximize your storage and make the most of your home’s existing space.

One of the reasons why so many people find they have limited space is because the space that they have is brimmed to the rim with duplicates and unnecessary items. Getting rid of the “one too many, never or seldom” used items is one of the must-do things that should be done when you attack any storage space problem.

Do you really need all of that stuff or can you scale it down to the essentials? If you eliminate all of the unnecessary or non-essential items, you’ll find that organizing everything else for more space efficiency becomes much more manageable.

Here are some tips on how to make the most of the space you have by utilizing one or all of these suggestions.

1. Get Rid of Any Excess Packaging

One way to get more space is to get rid of packaging or anything that makes products bulkier. As an example, shoe boxes take up a great deal of space in a closet, so remove the shoes and store them in a vertical shoe bag that can hang behind the door. Another way to make use of back door racks is purse hanging racks that take all of those bulky pocketbooks out of the closet and neatly lined up on a vertical back door hanger.

2. Everyone’s Kitchen Could Use Some Space Saving Tips

In a kitchen that’s bursting at the seams, buy store-bought inserts, plate racks, lazy Susan’s, drawer inserts, vertical cookie sheet slots inside cabinets, or shelf risers that increase the amount of cabinet space. Another way to manage all of the stuff in a cramped kitchen is to mount a pegboard and hang all your essentials or stacking shelves for inside your cabinets.

3. Consider Mounting An Additional Shelf

A simple space solution is to mount an additional shelf above your cabinets for added storage. You can leave it for stand-alone items, like seldom used mixers or blenders or put some baskets up there to stash your stuff in. A piece of unfinished plywood can be cut to fit the space or follow this tutorial from: The Family Handyman to create a shelf.

If the space above the cabinets is not tall enough to be used as an extra storage area so you have dead space up there. However, this final option is more challenging. You can remove the existing cabinets from the wall and re-hang them with the tops flush with the ceiling. You can then add a shelf below for additional storage space.

4. Pots and Pans Take Up A Lot Of Room…. But They Don’t Have Too

If space is limited for all your pots and pans, a wall or ceiling-mounted pot rack can free up valuable cabinet space. Just make sure that it’s sturdy enough, like a steel rack that can carry a good amount of weight.

5. Clean Up In The Bathroom

Bathrooms are notorious for having lots of “stuff” in them that are considered absolute essentials, like makeup, razors, hairbrushes, toilet paper, Band-Aids, mouthwash and the list goes on, but where in the world do you put all that stuff?

One solution is to add a shelf above the sink for easy access to the everyday things that you use. Another great idea is to get a store-bought shelving units so you have somewhere to put all of those essentials that the cabinets simply cannot fit. Lastly, a basket for toiletries or reading materials is a great space saver and looks attractive too!

Sum-Up:

However you decide to add some extra storage space to your existing interior, you will find that the room will work effectively and efficiently for you, and that’s something we could all use.
